Types of imprisonment – Types of imprisonment in IPC

As per section 53 of IPC there are two types of imprisonment:

Rigorous imprisonment

Under rigorous imprisonment, a person convicted of an offence is to do hard labour in imprisonment

Simple imprisonment

Under simple imprisonment, a person convicted of an offence to be kept in prison without any hard labour.

Such a convicted person is only required to do light duties.
